HL Deb 16 March 1998 vol 587 c93WA
The Earl of Sandwich

asked Her Majesty's Government:

To what extent they intend to support a strengthened international peacekeeping force in Africa. [HL955]

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Baroness Symons of Vernham Dean)

There is no international peacekeeping force in Africa as such. However, the United Nations has two peacekeeping operations in Angola (MONUA) and Western Sahara (MINURSO). Regional African peacekeeping forces are deployed in the Central African Republic (MISAB), Liberia (ECOMOG) and Sierra Leone (ECOMOG).
