§ Mr. DavidsonTo ask the Secretary of State for Social Security on what date the present £15 earnings disregard for people who qualify for the disability premium within income support was introduced; what increases reflecting inflation have been made to this sum; if inflation adjustments will be considered for future periods; and if she will make a statement. [33335]
§ Mr. DenhamThe present £15 earnings disregard was introduced in April 1988 and, in common with other disregards, has not been increased to reflect inflation. However, we continue to review benefits paid to sick and disabled people as part of our commitment to modernise the Social Security system. No decisions have yet been reached, but we will consult disabled people, their organisations and others with an interest before making any changes.
