§ Mr. HoyleTo ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment what minimum qualifications are required to allow a person to teach pupils to play musical instruments in schools. [33364]
§ Ms Estelle MorrisMusical instrument tuition is usually given by peripatetic instructors. It is the responsibility of schools and LEAs to decide if instructors are adequately qualified. No minimum qualification requirements are laid down nationally. If, however, such instruction in a state funded school is given by a person who is employed as a teacher, it is a condition of their employment that they should normally hold qualified teacher status.
