The Secretary of State for Education and Employment has asked me to reply to your question about the steps that are being taken to ensure that the internal recruitment of New Deal personal advisers does not adversely affect other Employment Service programmes. This is something which falls within my responsibilities as Chief Executive of the Employment Service.As you know, the role of the Personal Adviser is crucial to the success of New Deal. The Employment Service has considered very carefully the numbers of advisers required both for New Deal and other advisory work. The Employment Service is making staffing arrangements accordingly, and we have selected New Deal Personal Advisers to ensure this function is carried out effectively.We will be keen to ensure there will be no adverse effects on other Employment Service programmes and I will be keeping our performance in this area under review, and will make any necessary adjustments.
