HC Deb 10 March 1998 vol 308 cc135-6W
20. Mr. Flight

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what discussions he has had with other G7 countries relating to the political and financial problems in Indonesia. [31817]

Mr. Fatchett

My right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer chaired the G7 Finance Ministers meeting last month at which the financial situation in South East Asia, notably Indonesia, was addressed. We have contact at official level with G7 partners on its political ramifications, and will discuss the issue fully in Birmingham.

I also recently visited Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore in order to discuss the current financial difficulties.
