Lord Mackay of Ardbrecknish

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have yet had a response from the European Commission to their proposals for ensuring that all British registered fishing vessels maintain a real economic link with the United Kingdom, regarding the compatibility of the proposals with the European treaty and the jurisprudence of the European Court; and if they have not had a response, when they expect to receive it; and [HL814]

Further to the Written Answer by the Lord Donoughue on 16 February (WA 3), on what date were copies of the proposals for ensuring that all registered British fishing vessels maintain a real economic link with the United Kingdom circulated to the fishing industry and placed in the Library of the House. [HL815]

Lord Donoughue

The Government have not yet had a response from the European Commission to their proposals but one is expected shortly. The proposals were circulated to the industry on 16 February and placed in the Library of the House on the same day.
