HC Deb 06 March 1998 vol 307 c820W
Mr. Gray

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs for what reason the British Council advertised in the booklet, "Britain in Europe"; at what cost; and if he will make a statement. [32955]

Mr. Fatchett

The British Council advertised in the reputable publication "Britain in Europe" to publicise its forthcoming activities during the UK's Presidency of the European Union. The Council did not pay for the advertisement.

The Council also considered it appropriate and useful for its Chairman, Sir Martin Jacomb, to accept the Editor's invitation to contribute an article on the Council's activities in Europe.
