HC Deb 04 March 1998 vol 307 c628W
Mr. Healey

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many people the police have successfully prosecuted each year since 1990 for the offences of(a) dangerous driving, (b) careless driving and (c) failing to exercise proper control of a vehicle; and what percentage of these were using a mobile phone while driving. [31951]

Mr. Michael

Information on the number of convictions for dangerous driving and careless driving are published annually in Statistical Bulletin 'Motoring Offences, England and Wales' (table 11), a copy of which is in the Library. Careless driving includes offences of failing to exercise proper control of a vehicle, but are not separately identifiable.

The proportion of offences involving the use of a mobile phone while driving is not available, as the detailed circumstances are not collected centrally.
