To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions if he will make a statement on his proposals to improve the fuel efficiency of new cars. [30664]

There are a number of measures and initiatives to increase fuel efficiency in road vehicles, including the 6 per cent. annual fuel duty increases announced by the Chancellor in July last year, the Cleaner Vehicles Task Force and the EU CO₂ from cars strategy. We will also be considering further measures as part of the integrated transport policy and the climate change programme that we will be developing later this year.
