asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the Historic Buildings Advisory Group continues to provide advice to defence Ministers; and, if so, who are the members of that group. [HL624]

The Historic Buildings Advisory Group remains available to provide advice to defence Minsters to ensure that the highest standard of architectural conservation for the MoD's historic estate is achieved.

Members of the Group are:

  • Mr. Alan Baxter of Alan Baxter and Associates Consulting Engineers.
  • Mr. Stuart Lipton of Stanhope Properties.
  • Mr. Iain McIvor, former Inspector of monuments for English Heritage.
  • Mr. Les Sparks, Director of Planning and Architecture, Birmingham.

The position of vice chairman is currently vacant and a suitable replacement candidate will be selected shortly.

As the noble Earl will be away the chairmanship of this group is held by my honourable friend the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Defence.
