HC Deb 02 March 1998 vol 307 c481W
Mr. Jim Cunningham

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment what representations he has received from organisations in Coventry regarding the complexity of the(a) Helping You Back to Work leaflet and (b) Jobseeker's Agreement forms; and what plans he has to simplify those documents. [31493]

Mr. Alan Howarth

Responsibility for the subject of the question has been delegated to the Employment Service agency under its Chief Executive. I have asked him to arrange for a reply to be given.

Letter from Peter Collis to Mr. Jim Cunningham, dated 27 February 1998: The Secretary of State has asked Leigh Lewis the Chief Executive of the Employment Service, to write to you about what representations have been received from organisations in Coventry regarding the complexity of the "Helping you Back to Work leaflet and the Jobseeker's Agreement forms; and if there are any plans to simplify the documents. This is something that falls within the responsibilities delegated to Mr. Lewis. I am replying in his absence. I have checked extensively and have been unable to find any record of representations received on the leaflet or the form. There are no plans at present to simplify the Jobseeker's Agreement or Helping You Back to Work leaflet. However, we do have a programme which ensures that all leaflets and forms are reviewed every six months before we order reprints. Mr. Lewis would welcome any proposals which we could consider as part of this regular review process. I hope this is helpful.
