However, applying the percentage from the two studies of the prevalence of mental disorder in prisoners undertaken for the Prison Service by the Institute of Psychiatry to the population of the four prisons in Wales would suggest that some 900 people in prisons in Wales could be diagnosed as suffering from some form of mental disorder, including substance dependency or abuse.
