§ Mr. MichaelNumbers of medical retirements from forces in England and Wales for the years between 1990 and 1996–97, as a proportion of the total number of retirements, are included in the report by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary "Lost Time: The Management of Sickness Absence and Medical retirement in the Police Service", published in December 1997. The information is reproduced in the table, which also includes provisional figures for 1997–98. Such information is not available for the period before 1990.
