§ Mr. RaynsfordWe have recently consulted on options for allowing a measure of local discretion over the business rate. At the same time, we are considering whether, from 1 April 2000, those industries—including the electricity industry—which currently have their rates bills set by a formula, should have their rates determined on the basis of valuation like any other business. We hope to announce our decisions on these issues later in the summer. In doing so, we will fully consider their impact on the electricity industry.
