HL Deb 22 June 1998 vol 591 c9WA
Lord Steel of Aikwood

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What has been the percentage of aircraft delayed in landing at Heathrow airport during the months of April and May caused by United Kingdom air traffic control requirements; and what are the prospects for improvement. [HL2246]

Baroness Hayman

We understand from National Air Traffic Services Limited that the percentage of flights delayed in landing at Heathrow as a result of air traffic control restrictions was 9.7 per cent. in April and 7.2 per cent. in May. In order to reduce this, an additional 19 runway movements per day have been scheduled for this summer, in comparison to last. We are assured that safety concerns remain paramount and will not be compromised in any way.
