To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what proportion of claims for(a) extended council tax benefit and (b) child maintenance bonus have been disallowed for being submitted out of time in the current year. [45477]

The information on extended payments is not available in the format requested. Such information as is available is in the table. The information for 1997–98 will not be available until July 1998.

Regular payments of maintenance can transform the lives of lone mothers and their children, providing a stable income that can help them off Income Support and into work. In the current financial year to date, 9.8 per cent. of Child Maintenance Bonus claims have been disallowed for being submitted out of time.
