HC Deb 19 June 1998 vol 314 c337W
Mr. Baldry

To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many PFI projects his Department has entered into in the last year; and what is their combined value. [45468]

Mr. Milburn

Five major Private Finance Initiative (PFI) schemes with a combined capital value of over £400 million have reached financial close since 1 May 1997. These form part of the biggest new hospital building programme the National Health Service has ever seen, with a total of 30 major hospital developments given the go ahead. Twenty five of these, worth almost £2.2 billion, will be delivered through the PFI scheme and are expected to reach financial close by the end of 2000–2001.

Details of individual schemes with a capital cost of less than £10 million are not held centrally.
