To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, pursuant to paragraph 2.19 of his Department's annual report, what was the nature of the four requests made to his Department under the Code of Practice on Open Government in the past year which were refused. [45872]

The four requests made under the Code of Practice on Open Government which were refused by my Department in 1997 were:

  1. a. A request for details of submission made by the Commission for the New Towns to the Department to dispose of a site in Milton Keynes to a private developer.
  2. b. A request for details of a Ministerial Direction relating to a scheme of redress for those who had experienced exceptional hardship from generalised blight as a result of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link before the final route was fixed.
  3. c. A request for information on the A5036(T) road scheme identification study.
  4. d. A request for a list of Ministerial Directions to accounting officers made since 1990.
