§ Angela Eagle[holding answer 16 June 1998]The UK Biodiversity Action Plan and UK Biodiversity Steering Group Report contain the measures aimed at maintaining and enhancing biodiversity within the UK. Principal among these measures is the development of costed action plans for priority species and habitats. Some 116 species and 14 habitat action plans were published as part of the Steering Group report and are now being implemented. A further 56 species action plans were published on 2 June and copies are available in the Library. It is expected that by the end of the year over 400 species and 38 habitat action plans will have been published.
