HC Deb 16 June 1998 vol 314 cc159-60W
Mr. Reed

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many complaints he received about conditions in registered kennels for animals in quarantine in 1997–98.[44941]

Mr. Rooker

The Department received 36 letters of complaint in 1997, and 406 in 1998 (as at 9 June) about conditions in authorised quarantine premises. Of these, 22 and 11 respectively were made by owners of pets undergoing quarantine. The majority of those made this year followed media coverage of conditions in two quarantine premises, which this Department is investigating.

All specific complaints about individual quarantine premises made by owners of animal undergoing quarantine are investigated and appropriate action taken.
