§ Mr. MacleanTo ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what assessment he has made of the document, Rural Charter, a copy of which has been sent to him. [45689]
§ Mr. MorleyThe Rural Charter circulated by the National Farmers' Union draws attention to the economic difficulties currently being faced by the farming and allied industries. The Government recognise the concerns of farmers and those allied trades related to agriculture and believe that the countryside is a great national asset, a part of our national heritage which calls for careful stewardship. The Government are committed to ensuring that their policies take rural concerns into account and recognise the special needs of people who live and work in rural areas. Our policies for agriculture, health, education, transport and employment all benefit people in rural areas.
