19. Mr. Mackinlay

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment if he will make a statement on the Government's future funding for sixth-form colleges.[43774]

Mr. Byers

This Government have already announced an additional £100 million for the further education sector, including sixth-form colleges, over and above the plans of the previous Government for 1998–99. Funding for 1999–2000 and beyond will be announced later in the year.

21. Mrs. Virginia Bottomley

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment if he will visit Godalming and Farnham sixth form colleges to discuss funding of sixth-form colleges. [43776]

My right hon. Friend presently has no plans to do so.
