To ask the Prime Minister on what dates between 2 May 1997 and 4 May 1998 his Private Office received submissions or briefing notes on the situation in Sierra Leone. [42083]

The Prime Minister

[holding answer 14 May 1998]: As part of the usual flow of information on international issues, various submissions and briefing notes referring to the events in Sierra Leone were received in my Private Office during the period in question.

Mr. Bercow

To ask the Prime Minister which ministers were consulted on the decision by Sir Thomas Legg QC to advertise for witnesses to the Sierra Leone investigation in a national newspaper; and if he will make a statement. [45270]

The Prime Minister

Ministers were rightly not consulted, although my right hon. Friend the Foreign Secretary was informed of Sir Thomas Legg's decision before the advertisement appeared.
