HC Deb 11 June 1998 vol 313 cc691-2W
Dr. Tonge

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what plans he has for a further review of hospital services in South West London.[45268]

Mr. Milburn

A review of burns and plastics currently provided at Queen Mary's Hospital, Roehampton has been completed and following objections by the Wandsworth Community Health Council, we are considering Merton, Sutton and Wandsworth Health Authority's recommendations.

Following the changes to services provided at Queen Mary's, Roehampton and the publication of the White Paper "The New NHS" a further review is underway on the configuration of services currently provided at the following trusts: Merton and Sutton Community National Health Service Trust; Wandsworth Community NHS Trust; Teddington Memorial NHS Trust; and Richmond, Twickenham and Roehampton NHS Trust.

A strategic review has also been initiated by the chairman and chief executives of the six south west London acute trusts and the two south west London health authorities to determine how the trusts can work together to improve health services and make best use of available resources.

Any major changes to health services in the area will be subject to public consideration.
