To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will list the advances in human rights in China which have followed his decision not to support a resolution against China at the United Nations Commission on Human Rights.[44233]

[holding answer 8 June 1998]: Since the EU' s decision on 23 February not to support a resolution on China at the Commission on Human Rights, China has announced that it is preparing a sign the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and has released Wang Dan, a leading dissident.
