§ Mr. MilburnThe information requested about the numbers of doctors and nurses employed by the National Health Service can be found in the Department's statistical bulletins: "Hospital, Public Health Medicine and Community Health Service Medical and Dental Staff in England: 1986 to 1996" (the latest year for which information is available) and "NHS Hospital and Community Health Services Non-medical Staff in England: 1987–1997", copies of which are available in the Library. Information about the number of nurses joining the NHS is collected by the Office of Manpower and Economics and published in the annual reports of the Review Body for Nursing staff, Midwives, Health Visitors, copies of which are in the Library. Information about the recruitment of doctors is not collected centrally.
