We believe that the family remains the fundamental building block of society and the new welfare system will offer support to families on the basis of the needs of children rather than on family structure or marital status. The Budget announcements of increases to benefits for children, the Childcare Tax Credit and the Working Families Tax Credit are clear evidence of our commitment to supporting families with children.
