To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) what steps he has taken to clarify the law on the use of children in test purchases of alcohol; [44032]

(2) what steps he has taken to introduce legislation to prevent adults from buying alcohol on behalf of unsupervised children. [44033]

The Government's statement of 17 July 1997 on alcopops and alcohol misuse by those under age included commitments to legislate on both these subjects. We shall do so as soon as there is a suitable opportunity.
