§ Ms JowellWe recently announced eight research projects at a cost of £1.7 million on inequalities in health. This round of commissioning has focused on important areas to do with children and young people as well as health service mechanisms. All the projects are geared to answering the question: what actions on the part of health and other services can be effectively taken to reduce inequalities in health? In addition the Independent Inquiry into Inequalities in Health is reviewing existing research on this issue. Further research will be commissioned in the light of the Inquiry's report.
