To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what provision has been made for meeting staff costs over the life of each of the Private Finance Initiative contracts undertaken by(a) his Department and (b) the Prison Service; and if he will make a statement. [43428]

Mr. Straw

In respect of both(a) and (b), staffing costs which are part of the operations of a Private Finance Initiative (PFI) contract are the responsibility of the service operator and are included in the contractual charge for each PFI service.
