To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment (1) when he expects to publish the document on local management of schools: framework for guidance of local education authorities; [43033]

(2) when he expects to implement further delegation of responsibilities from local education authorities to schools. [43034]

Mr. Byers

The Government's consultation paper on the future development of local management of schools was published on 29 May. The intention is that the new arrangements should take effect from the beginning of the financial year 1999–2000. Copies of the paper have been placed in the Library.
