HC Deb 01 June 1998 vol 313 cc46-7W
Mr. Michael J. Foster

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport what representations he has received regarding the Gordon report on de-listing of sporting events. [43675]

Mr. Chris Smith

Lord Gordon's advisory group proposed various revisions to the arrangements, under Part IV of the Broadcasting Act 1996, for protecting universal broadcast of certain events. I am presently considering the group's recommendations. I have received 776 representations of this subject, including 132 from hon. Members, since the announcement of the group's report on 20 March.

Mr. Maude

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport when he will publish his decision on the recommendations of the advisory body on listed sporting events. [43649]

Mr. Chris Smith

I am considering the recommendations of Lord Gordon's advisory group very carefully, taking account of the many representations made to me on the subject of the list of protected events. I shall announce my decisions in the next few weeks.
