§ Ms Glenda JacksonThe aims of the Cleaner Vehicles Task Force were announced on 14 November 1997 in DETR Press Notice 274/Transport. Its overall aim is to create a new partnership between Government and the private sector to promote environmentally friendly vehicles people actually want to drive and buy. It specifically aims to
promote research and development that will keep Britain at the leading edge of cleaner vehicle technology;encourage people and business to buy greener vehicles and use them efficiently;consider the contribution that cleaner vehicle technology can make to meeting local air quality objectives, reducing noise and cutting carbon dioxide emissions to avoid global warming;increase the proportion of components that are reused or recycled; andfocus on European action during Britain's Presidency of the Council of the EU.
