HC Deb 01 June 1998 vol 313 c31W
Dr. Tonge

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions if he will make a statement about problems encountered with the new air traffic control information technology system. [43457]

Ms Glenda Jackson

The Environment, Transport and Regional Affairs Committee recently published the report of its inquiry into air traffic control. The Government hope to make their response to the report within the next few weeks—part of the response will be on the subject of the problems encountered by National Air Traffic Services Ltd. (NATS) with the computer system at its new air traffic control centre at Swanwick in Hampshire.

I can inform the hon. Member that since the Committee's report was published, the system at the Swanwick centre has passed its site acceptance tests, and has been handed over to NATS by the contractor, Lockheed Martin.
