§ Ms Glenda JacksonThe national scheme to wheelclamp and impound unlicensed vehicles was introduced in August 1997 and is being extended progressively across the country. In the 8 months to March 1998, it is estimated that some 80,000 additional vehicles were licensed as a result of the campaign, raising an extra £8.5 million. Support from the police, local authorities and the public has been enthusiastic.
