§ The Prime MinisterCitizens have the right to more information on what their Government are doing and this is why we have published our proposals for a Freedom of Information Act. A draft Bill is being prepared for public consultation and submission to the Public Services Select Committee for pre-legislative scrutiny. In order to co-ordinate the detailed preparation and implementation of Freedom of Information alongside related legislation on data protection and human rights, the Home Office will take on the responsibility for this Bill. These arrangements will deliver our commitment to end unnecessary secrecy in government as part of our programme to modernise the constitution.
