To ask the Secretary of State for Health what financial penalties will be imposed on hospitals which fail to meet their target output measures. [54950]

Mr. Boateng

We expect health authorities (and in due course Primary Care Groups) increasingly to develop service agreements with National Health Service trusts which include appropriate incentives and sanctions to reward good performance and support improvement where necessary.
