Mr. Moore

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what estimates he has made of the financial savings made by the NHS and Government health agencies as a result of employing external consultants, by year, since 1995. [53755]

Mr. Dewar

Estimates of savings from employing external consultants are neither set nor collected centrally. The responsibility for ensuring that such appointments are cost effective rests with individual Trusts and Boards.
