HC Deb 31 July 1998 vol 317 cc750-1W
Mr. Baker

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security, pursuant to his answer of 27 March 1998,Official Report, column 317, on departmental transport arrangements, what further changes he has made. [54010]

Mr. Denham

This Department is working towards the target announced in the White Paper, 'A New Deal for Transport', that all headquarters buildings and main buildings occupied by Executive Agencies and Government Offices for the Regions should have green transport plans by March 1999 and all other key buildings by March 2000.

Green Transport Plans and Commuting Action Plans are currently being drafted for 20 DSS sites, including headquarter buildings and the major sites in the northwest of the country. These will be in place by 1 April 1999.

For official journeys revised guidance on the usage of motor vehicles will be published in the new version of the Departments 'Green Guide'.

Official vehicles that have reached the end of their life with the department will be replaced, where necessary, with dual fuelled vehicles, particularly in environmental `hot spots' such as inner cities.
