To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many contracts or agreements have been commissioned by his Department with the Defence Evaluation and Research Agency of the Ministry of Defence since January 1996; and what was the duration, nature and value of each. [53153]

Mr. Straw

Two contracts have been let by the Police Information Technology Organisation with the Defence Evaluation and Research Agency of the Ministry of Defence since January 1996. Details are:

  1. 1. A consultancy contract for the operation of a Trials and Testing Programme for the TCAS 791 Collision Warning System, which commenced on 1 November 1997 and was completed on 15 March 1998.
  2. 2. A consultancy contract for a study to consider the introduction of Packet Data Base Stations in Home Office Allocations, which commenced on 28 January and was completed on 20 February 1998.

The value of the contracts was £109,301.
