HC Deb 31 July 1998 vol 317 cc585-6W
Mr. Jenkin

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what proportion of the employees of her Department and of the employees of each agency for which she is responsible cycle to work; and what measures she plans to increase that proportion. [52665]

Mr. Paul Murphy

[holding answer 28 July 1998]: In the Northern Ireland Office and the Northern Ireland Departments it is estimated that between 1–2 per cent. of employees cycle to work. Measures to increase the proportion of employees cycling to work are being considered as part of the development of green transport plans for buildings occupied by the Department and its Agencies. The Northern Ireland Office also has provision for an interest free loan for any employee to purchase a bicycle for travel to work purposes.

Mr. Jenkin

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what parking facilities for cycles exist at each office or site for which her Department is responsible and for each agency for which he is responsible. [52664]
