HC Deb 31 July 1998 vol 317 c626W
Mr. Hoyle

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions if he will introduce measures to require a minimum standard of facilities at bus and railway stations. [54171]

Ms Glenda Jackson

The White Paper "A New Deal for Transport" stresses the importance of better facilities at stations and other places of interchange. We expect the local transport plans developed by local authorities to include an audit of existing facilities against key attributes of good provision and to identify improvements that need to be made.

In addition, the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 will place specific requirements on operators of bus and rail stations to provide facilities that meet the needs of disabled passengers.
