HC Deb 31 July 1998 vol 317 c767W
Mr. Brady

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he proposes to include the display of odds by on-course bookmakers within the scope of legislation implementing the EC Directive 98/6/EC on Consumer Protection in the Indication of Prices of Products Offered to Consumers. [53717]

Dr. Howells

[holding answer 30 July 1998]: No. EC Directive 98/6/EC (in common with previous UK and EU legislation in this area) relates specifically to the prices of products and does not cover betting odds.

Neither my Department, nor the Home Office, which is responsible for betting policy, has received any representations that the UK's implementing legislation should be extended in this way.
