HC Deb 30 July 1998 vol 317 c402W
Mr. Wigley

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department on what date his Department received notification from the Welsh Language Board in relation to the need to prepare a Welsh language scheme; on what date his Department and the Board held consultations on such a scheme; when a scheme was formally submitted to the Board; and if it has been approved. [53350]

Mr. Straw

The Welsh Language Board asked the Home Office to prepare a draft scheme in September 1996. A number of consultations have taken place with the Welsh Language Board on working drafts of the scheme since then.

The Welsh Language Board has seen and commented on the most recent working drafts and a final version of the scheme is currently in development for submission to the Welsh Language Board for approval.
