Mr. Alan Johnson

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, pursuant to his answer of 24 June 1998,Official Report, column 532, who was given access to the National Maritime Institute report (Project 207001) on the 'Gaul' following its completion; and to whom it was distributed. [52362]

Ms Glenda Jackson

Departmental records show that thirty copies of the Report were printed. We do not have a complete distribution list but we believe copies were provided to the interested parties, who were the builders, Brooke Marine Ltd., and the owners, British United Trawlers, and Hellyer Brothers, a subsidiary company of British United Trawlers, and to Messrs. Graham & Rosen, solicitors acting on behalf of the next of kin. Copies were also sent to the solicitors representing Brooke Marine Ltd. and British United Trawlers. The Department of Trade and Industry retained an unspecified number of copies.
