HC Deb 30 July 1998 vol 317 c557W
Mr. Dawson

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what action she is taking to oppose measures taken by the European Commission to impose duties on grey cloth imported from countries outside the European Union. [52477]

Mrs. Roche

[holding answer 27 July 1998]: The provisional anti-dumping duties imposed by the European Commission on greycloth imported from six third countries will remain in force for six months from 10 April. We continue to be firmly opposed to these duties, which are damaging to the UK and EU textile industries and to UK and EU consumers.

We will do all we can to ensure that the Council of Ministers does not adopt any proposal by the Commission for a Council Regulation to impose definitive measures, which would last for five years.
