HC Deb 30 July 1998 vol 317 c460W
Mr. Öpik

To ask the Secretary of State for International Development (1) what assistance her Department has provided to Fiji in terms of(a) healthcare provision, (b) education facilities and (c) information technology in the last five years; and if she will make a statement; [52053]

(2) what projects her Department has sponsored in Fiji over the last five years; and if she will make a statement. [52054]

Mr. Foulkes

I will write to the hon. Gentleman with details of activities in Fiji funded over the past five years. British development assistance to the Pacific island countries is now provided from a single budget under a regional allocation rather than individual country programmes. The emphasis is upon two key sectors—education and rights and good governance—with particular emphasis upon three least-developed partner countries (Kiribati, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu), with assistance also to regional organisations and institutions.
