§ Mrs. RocheI appreciate the very real concern that small and medium sized manufacturers and exporters have expressed about the level of the pound. The most important thing that Government can do to help small and medium sized firms to thrive is to deliver a stable economic environment—with sustained growth, low558W inflation and sound public finances. This is the best path to achieving the Government's aim of a stable and competitive pound over the medium term.
