What proportion of National Lottery monies have been awarded for the funding of cancer research and in which specialties. [HL2801]

To date, the 12 National Lottery distributors have given out a total of £5.1 billion.

The National Lottery Charities Board has awarded over £2 million to 11 cancer research projects. This accounts for 0.04 per cent. of the National Lottery awards. The board also made a further 52 awards to cancer related projects totalling £4 million.

Women's Cancer Detection Society A research project to develop a means of identifying key features of cells as an aid to the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Breast 159,052
Cancer Research Campaign A project to create a national centre for research into common cancers. The grant, over two years, will cover the cost of refurbishing and fitting out the Strangeways Laboratory in Cambridge. General 476,973
Cancer Treatment and Research Trust This project is to develop a new anti-cancer therapy which would work by cutting off the blood supply to tumours. General 178,787
