To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what steps he has taken to achieve a welfare directive for farm animals across the EU. [51712]

I am delighted to confirm that, at the conclusion of our Presidency in June, we succeeded in obtaining agreement to a Directive which sets welfare standards for all species of farm animal across the EU.
